Large Cultural Revolution Silk Flag with Badge
During the Cultural Revolution in China (c. 1966-1976) revolutionary committees were formed at various factories and schools. Members of these committees would then join huge rallies, proudly displaying the flag of their committee. These flags would also be displayed at individual factories or schools.
The plastic badge that accompanies the flag was worn by the flag barer and says "Capital [Beijing] People's Militia Person on Duty". It measures 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) x 11.5 cm (4.5 inches).
This flag is 187 cm (6 feet) x 106 cm (3.5 feet) and carries the words, "Capital [Beijing] Red Guards". All the lettering has been dyed in the red silk and is not simply just printed on the silk.
