Cultural Revolution Aerial Defense Poster Set, 1970

This set of posters is a fantastic example demonstrating Chinese fear (or paranoia) about being attacked. Entitle the "Aerial Defense Demonstration Wall Map", there are 21 large posers showing various defensive measures for civilian structures, industry, and military responses...all under the guidance of Chairman Mao.

The quotation from Chairman Mao is: The Party should focus on the war, the military and be prepared to fight wars. The revolutionary war is a war of the masses; it can be waged only by mobilizing the masses and relying on them.

The last poster shows triumphal Chinese soldiers atop what appears to be a destroyed Soviet tank and downed American plane in the background. The text under the image, "Eliminate the consequences of air strikes after the end of the fighting, 'We should conscientiously sum up experiences'. 'Carry forward the results to correct errors in order to facilitate new fights'. The rapid restoration of normal life in cities, 'Grasp revolution, promote production and work to promote combat readiness'."

Each of the 21 posters are in good condition and the colors are bold and vibrant. Each poster measures 76cm (30 inches) x 52cm (20.5 inches) and were printed in 1970 by the Capital People's Aerial Defense Team Office.
