 798 Art District

 

The 798 art district is located to the north of Beijing on the grounds of an old factory appropriately called the 798 Factory.

There are now dozens of galleries located in 798 that showcase the artworks of established and up and coming Chinese artists.

The 798 galleries have generally just moved into abandoned factory space and some have fortunately left remnants of the Mao inspired slogans that add a great deal of character to the whole district.

The numerous galleries have come up with some truly inspirational names looking at them from a Cultural Revolution point of view.

Some of the galleries have chosen interesting exterior decorations.
